China's total fertility ratio of women dropped from 5.8 to 1.8 as a result of the implementation of the family planning policy in past 30 years, postponing the 1.3 billion population day in China by 4 years, said Li Bin, director of the National Population and Family Planning Commission at the Reform and Opening Up and Population Development Forum.
He also said, due to family planning, the population dependency ratio dropped by nearly one third, creating a longer population dividend period, and contributing over 1/4 to the sustained fast economic development in China.
The state of subsistence and development of China's population has been improved remarkably, and the progress towards the millennium development goal is continuing smoothly, added Li.
Moreover, the average life expectancy has increased from 68 years to the current 73 years since the beginning of the reform and opening up, achieving the standard of moderately-developed countries, according to Li.
