"Sophie's Revenge", a romantic comedy from the first-time producer Zhang Ziyi, will open on August 14 in Chinese cinemas.

A five-minute teaser trailer of the movie was released at a press conference Sunday in Shanghai.

The fast-paced trailer featured the ever-changing fashionable and comical styles of the female leads, provoking frequent loud laughter amongst the audience.

"I was probably the one who laughed the loudest," Zhang Ziyi said after the screening. "I've seen it many times during the post production but I still find it funny."

The 30-year-old plays the title role of Sophie, a carefree and fanciful cartoonist. Her surgeon boyfriend Jeff (So Ji-sub) proposes to her, but soon changes his mind when he meets beautiful actress (Fan Bingbing). With the help of her pals (Ruby Lin, Yao Chen and Peter Ho), Sophie decides to try to win Jeff's heart back just two months before the scheduled wedding date. However, this plan results in many outrageous and amusing scenes…

"Sophie's Revenge" is also Zhang Zi's first comedy as an actress.

"We have a good script, and a strong cast and crew," said Zhang Ziyi, claiming she has confidence the 5-million-yuan budget film will reap strong box office takings.
