A "happiness index" test conducted at several Beijing bus stations over two weeks ended at 6:00 pm, on July 18. According to organizers, Beijing beat Shanghai to be awarded "the happiest city" with a "happiness index" of 56.06 percent, 0.5 percent higher than Shanghai. This was out of a total of six cities where the test was conducted.
On July 5, a novel and interesting device was installed at ten bus stations around Beijing to test the city's happiness by interacting with residents. The "happy" bus stops in Beijing attracted over 820,000 participants in two weeks, the highest attendance among the six cities where the test was conducted. Among the 820,000 participants, over 460,000 selected the "happy" mood button, thus bringing the "happiness index" to 56.06 percent, ranking first among the six cities.
According to organizers, of the ten bus stations in Beijing where the test was conducted, Dengshi Xikou Station was the happiest, with an index of 63.10 percent. The cities ranking second to sixth were Shanghai, Kunming, Xi'an, Guangzhou and Chengdu respectively.
