Chinglish has life, please don't trample on it

"It shouldn't be treated as a cheap joke for foreign tourists to laugh at but as a cultural treasure." Cultural treasure<<<

Chinglish can reflect the trend of the times in China. Phrases such as knowledge economy, and peaceful rise recount changes brought by reform and opening up.

Language's vitality <<<

English has absorbed elements from other languages such as Frenchand Spanish in its growth, and the emergence of Chinglish again testifies to the language's vitality and inclusiveness.

Public services require standard English <<<

Signs were very important in public services. A sign warning of a wet floor in a Beijing shopping mall was translated as "The Slippery Are Very Crafty", and a theme park dedicated to China's ethnic minorities had been called "Racist Park." Some of the translations are confusing or even offensive to foreign visitors.

[Who will save Chinglish?]

When Chinese people mockingly said that hearing Chinglish is like receiving an electric shock, native English speakers launched a campaign to save Chinglish. In the eyes of these foreigners, Chinglish is the wonderful result of an English dictionary mixing with Chinese grammar. [more]
