Shanghai Jiao Tong University joins Xinhua in financial services

Xinhua News Agency and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) signed here Wednesday an agreement of strategic cooperation on developing financial information services.

According to the agreement, the two sides will jointly set up a lab in the university to develop Xinhua's financial service products, Xinhua 08.

The two sides will also begin joint researches in financial technology, media, market and policies.

"To acclimatize itself to the development of the global economy and the competition of world media, the agency is expanding its traditional news services to the field of financial information," said Xinhua president Li Congjun when meeting with Ma Dexiu, the university's Party committee secretary.

Ma said the cooperation was expected to help bring China's financial industry in line with international standards.

The SJTU, founded in 1896, is one of the most prestigious universities in the country.
