The 11th International Cinema Festival (FIC) starts Wednesday in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil. Almost 90 movies from 30 countries will be shown until Nov. 15.
The festival consists of six exhibitions. "Competitive Line Up" features 10 films from different countries which are competing for the top prize, while "French Cinema" pays tribute to the Year of France in Brazil.
"Korean Film Showcase" celebrates the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Brazil and South Korea, and "Feature Films" shows movies that have not been released yet in Brasilia.
Marco Farani, general director of the festival and also a diplomat, told local newspapers that it was not easy to organize such an event without a lot of support. Nevertheless, he decided to continue with the project because "it is important for the city."
The annual festival often takes place in late October or early November, and is regarded as one of the most important Brazilian movie festivals.
"The White Ribbon" by Michael Haneke, which opens the festival, is one of the most highly anticipated award-winning films, as well as the acclaimed "Antichrist" by Lars von Trier and Jan Kounen's "Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky."
