Spain recorded a sharp rise in the number of A/H1N1 flue cases in the week between Oct. 25 and 31.

Figures published by the Spanish Ministry of Health on Thursday showed 126,999 new A/H1N1 flue cases were reported last week, compared with 80,981 new cases in the previous week.

The ratio of newly infected cases last week stood at 292.45 in every 100,000 inhabitants, while that in the previous week was 182.45 in the same number of people.

The week also saw 10 fatalities, bringing the total number of deaths to 73. However, the mortality rate remains low with just 0.13 fatalities per 1,000 cases, the ministry said.

But Health Minister Trinidad Jimenez warned earlier this week that the number of infected cases was expected to peak in days up to the end of November.
