Female writer Gwenaelle Aubry on Monday won the prestigious French Femina literature prize for her novel "Personne."

The 38-year-old female writer won the second round voting with seven ballots in her favor from the all-female jury, beating two other contenders, Brigitte Giraud with "Une annee etrangere" and Yannick Haenel with "Jan Karski."

Meanwhile, Matthias Zschokke, 55, a Swiss writer and film maker, won the French Femina prize for a foreign novel with his "Maurice a la poule."

French historian Michele Perrot won the Femina essay prize with the essay "Histoire de chambres."

The Femina prize, created in 1904, aims to honor the best novel published in France each year. Though the prize is decided by an exclusively female jury, the winner of it does not have to be a woman.

The prize is originally initiated as a counter-balance to the male-dominated Goncourt Prize.
