Talent show singer Amguulan, a contestant from Hunan TV's 2007 "Happy Boy" singing competition, turned himself in on March 6 for a hit-and-run in a car accident in Hangzhou, according to domestic news reports.

The accident happened around 5 a.m. on March 3 in downtown Hangzhou when Amguulan was behind the wheel of a BMW limousine. The car crashed into an electric cycle at an intersection and the singer fled the scene right away. The collision caused cyclist Li Rongzhen, a 47-year-old female migrant worker from Hubei Province, severe brain trauma.

Amguulan has confessed to drunk driving, sources close to the case said. According to China's current criminal law, he may be sentenced to at least three years in prison aside from having to pay the victim financial compensation.

"My wife has been in coma, and the doctor says there's only a slight chance that she'll pull through," said Wang Chengji, the victim's husband.

Three high-ranking executives of E.E. Media, Amguulan's agent company, arrived in Hangzhou to cooperate with the police investigation the day Amguulan was detained. They have reportedly promised to cover Li Rongzhen's medical expenses.

E.E. Media is closely linked to Hunan TV, the host of China's most influential television talent shows in recent years.

Amguulan, a songwriter and guitarist, finished in eighth place in Hunan TV's "Happy Boy" talent show in 2007. He released his debut album in September 2009.

The rising singer has been nominated for best new singer in this year's Chinese Music Awards, which will take place in Chengdu on March 28.
