Mozambique and the United Nations University are holding talks this week in Maputo on aid to the education of higher learning in the Portuguese-speaking African country, including a UN-sponsored university.
On Wednesday, both sides discussed assistance to Mozambique's main university, the Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM).
According to Mozambican minister of science and technology, Venancio Massingue, the UN university will provide aid mainly to the teaching of science, technology and research.
Massingue told reporters here on Thursday that the UN higher learning institution is of utmost importance for Mozambique, as the country has been paying more and more attention to science and technology in the last three years.
If the talks succeed, Mozambique could expect the first UN university to be set up next year in the former Portuguese colony.
