Shanghai Securities News reported that Disney has been discussing about the feasibility of building a theme park in Shanghai, according to the "Los Angeles Times". The American company and the Shanghai Municipal Government recently drew up a joint application report which will be submitted to the Chinese Central Government for approval. The Disney headquarters and the Shanghai Municipal Government signed the document to draw the legal and financial framework for the construction of a theme park in Shanghai. According to the agreement signed, Disney will hold 43 percent of the stock shares, while the Shanghai municipal government-owned joint venture will hold 57 percent. The theme park project is expected to cost 24.48 billion yuan and to cover an area of about 1.5 square kilometers. It is going to be open to visitors at least in 2014. The agreement did not specify the location for the theme park, but the Disney Park has allegedly been consented to be located in the yellow floor area at the junction bewteen Shanghai Pudong Chuansha and Nanhui. "As the Central Government has not yet made a formal approval, the specific location may be fine-tuned, but basically the park is sure to be near the Shanghai Pudong International Airport", an expert said.
Compared to Disney projects around the world, Shanghai Disneyland will be listed among the ultra-large-scale ones. In Disney's global business model, four major business areas are making huge profits: theme parks and playgrounds, video creation, media networking platform and other related consumer products. The Disney project could bring in investment in the mainland stock market involving enterprises from a range of sectors such as real estate, film and television entertainment, publishing and printing, media networks, toy manufacturing, franchising, advertising and others.
