No venues and facilities at the Beijing Olympic Park will be opened to the public free of charge this weekend to commemorate the one year anniversary of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the Beijing Olympic Park Administration Committee said Friday morning.
Representatives of the park's administration committee made the announcement in response to some previous reports saying that Beijing Olympic Park would offer free entry for three days.
Visitors who want to enter any venues, including the National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest, and the National Aquatics Center, known as the Water Cube, still need to buy tickets as usual.
About 4.5 million tourists have visited the Bird's Nest since it opened to the public last September, with an average of 15,000 tourists per day. About 3.8 million tourists have visited the Water Cube over the past 11 months.
The Olympic Park, which is about 1,135 hectares in space, has welcomed more than 26 million tourists since last September. During peak tourist occasions such as the National Day and the May Day holidays, it had an average of 20,000 visitors per day, according to the Beijing Olympic Park Administration Committee.
