Following the splendid total solar eclipse on July 22, 2009, an annular solar eclipse will occur. The astronomical societies of Tianjin and Jiangsu issued a statement December 15, saying that the rare astronomic phenomenon of an annular solar eclipse will occur on January 15, 2010, and most regions in China will be able to witness it.
Astronomers said in a statement that the annular solar eclipse, beginning on January 15, 2010, will be visible in provinces including Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Shaanxi, Hunan, Hubei, Henan, Anhui, Shandong, Jiangsu, as well as Chongqing Municipality, while other regions will be able to witness a partial solar eclipse.
Astronomers say that it is a rare opportunity to observe an annular solar eclipse, and those who are interested should not miss it. To better observe the annular solar eclipse, the public who are interested should make some preparations in advance, such as observation spectacles.
Astronomers say that the chances of a total solar eclipse and annular solar eclipse occurring are small. The annular solar eclipse will be visible in China again on May 21, 2012, and the public in Guangxi, Guangdong, and Fujian provinces, Hong Kong and Macao will be able to witness it.
