Kites
Kites exist in both northern and southern China. China is rich in bamboo which is suitable for various kite designs. There are thousands of varieties of kites, as they often relate to Chinese fairy tales, and each holds its own unique characteristics.
Weifang city in Shandong province is famous for kites. The designs are beautiful and fine; the pictures on the kites are also innovative as they capture Spring Festival Images with vivid fine lines and bright colors. A typical representation is the large dragon head-centipede body kite, which is more than 30 meters long. While flying in the sky, it looks quite magnificent.
In 1988, the Fifth International Kite Festival decided that Weifang would be the World''s Kite Capital. Every year between April 20th and 25th, the international kite festival is be held there. Various folk and traditional art activities take place during the festival.
