Spring Festival Images
Spring Festival Images are also called happy pictures because people change them every year. This is one of the most popular of folk arts. In Chinese tradition, the Spring Festival Images are symbols of the lunar new year. If one does not display these images, it means one does not celebrate the Spring Festival.
The image themes are of secular social life relating to historical stories, folklore, religious beliefs, dramas and novels, and various figures.

Different areas have different types of pictures. For example, in Tianjin there are poplar and young willow tree pictures which were appealing to the royal court; in Wuqiang, Hebei province and Weifang, Shandong province, there are illustrations of rural cultures; in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, the pictures are very delicate and colorful; and in Zhuxianzhen, Henan province, the Spring Festival Images have the longest history.
Wuqiang pictures are full of folklore lives and arts through rich imagination and craft. With the beautiful forms and bright colors, the pictures can tell a good story through 10 parts of one piece of paper.
