Recently, the premiere of Chinese Culture Reading (Chinese version) was held in Beijing on the 17th to welcome the coming of Beijing Olympic Games. This new publication aims to vividly promote Chinese culture to readers at home and abroad.
Chinese Culture Reading, consisting of 4 parts and 37 chapters, is co-authored by Ye Lang and Zhu Liangzhi, professors in the Philosophy Department at Beijing University. They are devoted to combining China's deep cultural mindset with its emotional contents.
Although China has attracted much attention from the world, a westerner's understanding of China is confined to the missionaries' introduction to China in the 17th and 18th century, Ye explained. Nowadays, people may have distorted notions about and have a “one-sided perspective” of Chinese culture. He said that the present cultural division between China and the world should be reversed immediately, which is the main reason for the release of Chinese Culture Reading before the Olympic Games.
The Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, sponsor of Chinese Culture Reading, revealed that the English, French, German, Russian, Korean, and Spanish versions will be published before the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games.
