As the draws of the last phase of the2010 World Cup qualifying series holds on Oct. 22, in Zurich, Switzerland, 1996 Atlanta Olympic gold medallist, Joseph Dosu, has warned the Super Eagles to expect tough opponents in their group.
Dosu, former Eagles' goalkeeper said all the 20 African countries that qualified for the next stage of the World Cup qualifiers are deadly and stand equal chances of making it to the mundial in South Africa, in 2010.
"I don't think there are minnows in African football anymore, the Eagles should expect tough teams in their group," he said.
The ex-international said he prefers tough opposition in Nigeria 's group as they will give the Eagles a tough time in the next round of the qualifiers.
According to him, tough opponents will equally make the Eagles take each game of the qualifiers serious.
"This will make the battle for the sole ticket an interesting war, but giving us lesser teams, like the ones we had in the first round, will not do the Eagles any good at all," he said.
He said the team should begin to face the heat now before the World Cup, noting that he have the confidence that Nigeria will play in the World Cup at all costs.
Dosu advised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to organize grade A international friendly games for the Eagles before the beginning of next round of qualifiers.
He said they need the friendly matches to assist coach Shuaibu Amodu and his assistants to select good players who will dorn Nigeria's colors in the qualifying series. Source: Xinhua
