China's Mount Wutai and the historic monuments of Mount Songshan have applied with the 33rd World Heritage Convention to be inscribed as a mixed (both natural and cultural) property and a cultural property, respectively, on the World Heritage List.
Convened once a year, the World Heritage Convention is a regular meeting held by the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
This year's convention would discuss and determine the new members to be inscribed on the World Heritage List, and review the conservation of the 178 world heritage sites and 30 sites in danger which have already been inscribed on the List. As of now, China has had 37 properties inscribed on the List.
This year's convention was opened in Seville in southern Spain on June 22. During the session, the committee will review 30 new world heritage nominations proposed by its 35 Member States, and review the management and protection works on world natural and cultural heritages.
