Citizens: Followers and the Wide Sea is mainly about the history of Chinese in Australia from 1888 to 1995. The book continues the work of completing the panorama of the history of the Chinese in Australia which he began with
Sojourners. As a piece of historical research, this book deserves the merit that has been accorded it. Rolls has brought to life the diversity and colors of the times and people he talks about.
