Fine Art Beijing, the only classic art fair of its kind in China, will open today at the Agricultural Exhibition Center. The four-day event aims to promote a deeper understanding of classic arts and boost communication between classic art collectors and art institutions in China and beyond.

Over 30 selected galleries and art institutions from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, Japan, South Korea, Europe and the US will participate in the art fair, displaying their prized collections of both classical and modern art.

Galleries involved in the fair include New York's New World Art Center, H&E Gallery from Tokyo, Galerie ARTDIF from Paris and Can Art Center from Beijing. The collections range from Barbizon, Impressionism, Modernism to Chinese realism and ink painting.

The fair will also display important works by renowned Chinese artists of the 20th century, encompassing oil painting, ink and wash painting, print making and watercolors and works by Xu Beihong, Wu Zuoren, Chen Yanqiao and Guan Liang.

A number of special exhibitions and a classical prints exhibition will also be part of the fair. The Spirit of the Orient ink painting exhibition will assemble and display works of Chinese realism by Jin Shangyi, Jin Zhilin, Zhong Han and Yang Feiyun. The showcase aims at providing an insight into the birth and development of the art form.

A Retrospective Look at Huang Zhou's Works will show Huang's pieces, a representative figure in Chinese ink painting.

There will also be an exhibition of first generation Chinese sculptors, such as Hua Tianyou, Liu Kaiqu and Zeng Zhushao.
