The 10th Congress of the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC) would be held in the Ecuadorian capital of Quito from Tuesday to Friday, Quito's mayoralty reported on Tuesday.

Mayors and representatives from 26 cities across the world will attend the Congress, which this year aims to "revitalize the historical centers" and to discuss "how to involve all the social actors," the mayoralty said.

The Congress coincides with the 31st anniversary of Quito's declaration as first Cultural Heritage of the Humanity given by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

Quito's mayor Augusto Barrera said he was proud of hosting the Congress because "to maintain a heritage of Quito's dimensions, complexity and nature is not product of the inertia and fortuity."

Jeanne Marie, representative from the Getty Conservation Institute, said it "is a honor, a pleasure and a challenge to work with Quito" and the Congress "is a place to think about the current challenges in the heritage cities."
