Shenzhen and Hong Kong are teaming up for their own Biennale this December. The ambitious exhibition is testament to the successful collaboration of top designers between the two Chinese cities.

The past years have seen a number of top Hong Kong design firms setting up branches in Shenzhen.

The global downturn prompted these Hong Kong businesses to move into the promising market in the Pearl River Delta. The robust demand on the Mainland has helped make up for the loss of international orders.

This April, Shenzhen launched the Tianmian Design Industry Park in conjunction with the Hong Kong regional government. So far, more than twenty Hong Kong firms have moved in, some of them even moving their headquarters there.

The influx of talents and ideas has had a healthy influence on the local market. Local designers are learning a lot from their Hong Kong counterparts. And the combination of advantages of the two cities has greatly sharpened the competitive edge of Shenzhen's design industry.
