28 named to receive stars on Hollywood Walk of Fame

"Titanic" director James Cameron, Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe and Beatles drummer Ringo Starr were among 28 individuals and groups named Thursday to receive stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The new star recipients were chosen among more than 200 nominees by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce's Walk of Fame Committee in a meeting earlier this week, and ratified by the chamber's Board of Directors, according to Ana Martinez-Holler, the chamber's vice president for media relations.

The new group of star recipients have five years to schedule their ceremonies when their stars will be placed on the sidewalks of the Hollywood Boulevard.

Joining Cameron and Crowe in the movie category are actors AdamSandler, John Cusack, Colin Firth and Mark Wahlberg, actress Emma Thompson, composers Alan Menken and Randy Newman and producer GaleAnn Hurd.

The honorees in the television category include talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, "Two and a Half Men" star Jon Cryer, "Mission Impossible" star Peter Graves, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, who won an Emmy award for her starring role on the CBS comedy "The New Adventures of Old Christine," comedian and talk show host Bill Maher, "Law & Order" star Sam Waterston and ESPN sportscaster Chris Berman.

Meanwhile, the late Roy Orbison, Bryan Adams, Alan Jackson, Chaka Kahn, Van Morrison, Marco Antonio Solis, the rock trio ZZ Top and the Motown Records session musicians The Funk Brothers joined Starr as being selected in the recording category.

Canadian circus group Cirque Du Soleil and Italian tenor AndreaBocelli were selected in the live performance and theater category.
