Swiss authorities will place film director, Roman Polanski, under house arrest as soon as he posts a four and a half million US dollar bail.

The film director is to be held at his chalet in the Swiss ski resort of Gstaad. His ID and travel documents will be confiscated and he will be subject to an electronic monitoring system. The Swiss authorities are still examining Polanski's possible extradition to the US. The 76-year-old was arrested when he arrived in Switzerland for a film festival in September.

He pleaded guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977, but fled the US in 1978 before he was sentenced. Polanski faces up to two years in a US prison if he is extradited. He is best known for directing films including Rosemary's Baby, Chinatown, and The Pianist.
