A laboratory test has confirmed that the death of a 29-year-old woman on the Indonesian resort island of Bali was caused by bird flu, an official said Monday in Jakarta.
"The 29-year-old mother, identified by her initials NSW, who died yesterday (Sunday), was tested positive of bird flu," said Bayu Krisnamurti, head of the national commission for bird flu.
It was the first human death of bird flu on the world famous island and the 82nd across the country.
Her five-year-old daughter also died last week with similar bird flu symptoms.
"But the body of the child has been buried. We could not confirm the cause of her death," Bayu told a press conference here.
