A diarrhea outbreak in a town south of Philippine capital Manila affecting 350 people has been put under control, said a local health official on Sunday.
Vilma Diez, provincial health officer of the Cavite province 50 kilometers south of Manila, told local radio DZXL that the mayor of General Trias town, where the diarrhea outbreak took place, has ordered local water district to investigate if contaminated water was the source of the infection.
"The cases have started going down. The control measures put in place by the mayor and the municipal health office are working," she said.
She said health officials would continue to hold community assemblies to remind residents to practice hygiene, particularly washing their hands after going to toilet or before eating.
Investigation showed the outbreak started shortly after water supply was briefly cut off, which prompted residents to take water from a utility firm's reserve tank, she said.
