Vietnam plans to make bird flu vaccination among poultry, including chickens, ducks and white-feathered ducks, compulsory in the entire territory of 33 cities and provinces in 2008, local newspaper Vietnam Economic Times reported Tuesday.

The compulsory vaccination will also be implemented in plain districts or high-risks areas in 14 other localities. The country's all 64 cities and provinces must ensure full vaccination for their duck flocks.

Besides, the country will encourage the vaccination for chickens raised in small scale and compel vaccination for those breed in large scale in 12 northern mountainous provinces and four central highland ones.

Now, bird flu is hitting northern Cao Bang province, and central Quang Tri province, according to the Department of Animal Health under the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Bird flu outbreaks in Vietnam, starting in December 2003, have led to the forced culling of dozens of millions of fowls in the country.
