A three-day inter-ministerial meeting on avian influenza or bird flu is taking place in capital New Delhi, local TV channel NDTV reported Tuesday.

The meeting is being attended by nearly 100 countries.

This meeting is an attempt to put animal health in focus as emerging diseases like avian flu and mad cow disease are all related to animals.

Countries will be asked to ensure bio security in the poultry sector so that the infection cannot move from poultry to humans.

So far, India has had two bird flu outbreaks.
