Twenty private hospitals will be established in Vietnam next year, local newspaper Youth reported Monday.
Sixty-six private hospitals and 45,000 private clinics were set up nationwide between 2006 and 2007, the newspaper quoted Nguyen Van Thai, chairman of the Vietnam Private Medicine Society, as saying.
The 66 hospitals conduct a total of 75 million medical check-ups and tens of thousands of surgeries each year, helping reduce overloads at state-run hospitals.
Thai said his society is calling for the establishment of Vietnam's first private medicine university in the coming time.
