A new therapeutic vaccine for breast cancer patients is under clinical study, said Ursula Wiedermann-Schmidt, the director of the Department of Specific Prophylaxis and Tropical Medicine of the Medical University of Vienna on Wednesday.
The vaccine could produce a monoclonal antibody to restrain the growth of cancer cells, and would be used as an auxiliary therapy in the future.
Wiedermann-Schmidt said her team had so far successfully tested the new vaccine on mice and would start the first phase of the clinical study with the Interior Medical Department of Allgemeines Krankenhaus Hospital (AKH).
According to the statistics released by the Austrian Pharmacy Chamber, about 1,700 Austrians die of breast cancer every year. Source: Xinhua
