Sixty-eight pupils from two schools in the Serang Pram Utara district sought treatment at two hospitals in Butterworth, northern Penang state in separate food poisoning incidents on Thursday, local media reported on Friday.
Four of the 43 affected pupils of a school have been admitted to hospital. The four, two girls and two boys, are from Year Two and Year Six, respectively, the New Straits Times reported.
At another school, 25 pupils received outpatient treatment at the hospital.
The children began complaining of stomachache after they consumed food at their school canteens during recess.
State Health and Welfare Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh, who visited the pupils at the hospital, said the state would conduct checks at both canteens to see whether the operators had adhered to cleanliness procedures.
