Experts have warned that Nepal is prone to spread of dengue fever and authorities should adopt high alert to prevent the disease communicated through mosquito bite, local newspaper The Rising Nepal reported on Tuesday.

The experts made the remarks at a workshop on prevention of dengue fever organized by Epidemiology and Disease Control division on Sunday in Dhangadhi, some 470 km west of Nepali capital Kathmandu.

Division chief Dr. GD Thakur said the best way to keep dengue at bay was to keep oneself protected from mosquito bite.

Disease control expert Dr. BP Yadav said three persons have died of dengue in Nepal so far this year and hospitals occasionally report cases of dengue. He said mosquito control was a must to prevent spread of dengue.

Fever, headache, eye ache and blisters on body parts are the symptoms of dengue.

The division said dengue is common across the Nepal-India border plains areas.

According to World Health Organization, the disease has spread to many countries now even though it was initially reported in less than ten countries, according to the report.
