The Australian government launched a new food safety campaign on Wednesday to try to reduce the risk of food poisoning at home.
The campaign, including two TV community service ads and three radio announcements, was launched after a recent survey by Food Standards Australia New Zealand which found 92 percent of people were confident about food safety at home.
Parliamentary secretary Jan McLucas said in a statement on Wednesday that the finding was not in line with the real risk of food poisoning, as "each year there are about one million cases of food poisoning due to poor food handling in the home."
The two television ads focus on scenarios involving a man's sporting team losing a grand final because a star player gets food poisoning, while a woman's mistake of leaving a pavlova out of the fridge causes guests to get sick at her father's birthday.
The advertisements were launched as part of National Food Safety Week which starts on Wednesday.
