Singapore's food poisoning involving an local Indian rojak food stall claimed the second victim on Wednesday, local media reported.
According to TV broadcaster Channel news Asia, Norani Kassim, 59,who was warded in a local hospital on last Saturday, died before 10:00 a.m. local time on Wednesday.
This is the second food poisoning victim since the outbreak started between April 2 and 4, when people started to fall ill with food poisoning symptoms such as severe abdominal cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea after eating at a local Indian rojak food stall.
The outbreak killed the first victim, a 57-year-old woman, on Monday and caused a 38-year-old woman to miscarry.
Singapore's Ministry of Health (MOH) said that it has been notified of 137 cases so far, and 37 were hospitalized, while 100 received outpatient treatment.
The MOH said that preliminary lab results showed that two of the food poisoning cases have tested positive for the bacteria Vibrio parahaemolyticus, which is a common cause of food poisoning associated with consumption of raw or partially cooked seafood.
The Indian rojak food stall which caused the outbreak has been closed for investigation. Singapore's National Environment Agency (NEA) also ordered a full cleaning of the whole Geylang Serai temporary market, where the food stall is located, with all stalls shut down from Wednesday to Friday.
