Singapore announced on Tuesday precautionary measures to control the spread of Influenza A/H1N1 when local schools reopen after holidays.

According to TV broadcaster Channel NewsAsia, Singapore's Education Ministry said that it will issue a seven-day leave of absence to all school staff and students returning from affected countries.

The ministry said that when school reopens on June 29, there will be temperature taking twice daily and screening of travel history.

The report said that local schools will send travel declaration forms to all staff, parents of students, vendors and service providers, before school reopens to update their travel history. Teachers will check the travel declaration forms on the first day of school opening.

The Education Ministry believed that about one to two percent of students and staff will return from the affected countries, adding that if infected clusters are found in schools, the whole school will be closed for a period of time if necessary.

Singapore reported its first confirmed case of Influenza A/H1N1on May 27. The number of total cases here reached to 168 as of Monday. Over 20 local cases were reported here over the last five days.
