The American University in Cairo (AUC) decided to suspend its classes up to Oct. 3 as a precautious measure in dealing with influenza A/H1N1, independent al-Masry el-Youm newspaper reported Thursday.
The decision came after the Egyptian government asked foreign schools and universities to postpone the semester in line with the governmental universities to prevent the spreading of the flu.
No new cases were reported in the university since June.
On June 8, Egypt reported seven A/H1N1 flu cases at a dorm of the AUC and the Health Ministry quarantined the dorm building, which accommodates 110 students and 124 teachers, for seven days.
On June 2, Egypt reported its first A/H1N1 flu case, who was a 12-year-old Egyptian-American girl coming from the United States via the Netherlands.
