Chinese Medical Association in Sweden has been formed in Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm.
About 40 Chinese and overseas Chinese doctors, medical researchers and scholars from Sweden attended the formation meeting on Saturday.
Participants discussed the charter for the association and elected the first President and other positions of the association.
Dr. Duan Maoli who works in Karolinska University Hospital was elected the first president of the association, Gu Feng, the director of Academic Committee.
Dr. Matti Anniko from Uppsala University, Ingemar Ernborg from Karolinska Institutet and Ye Keqing, President of the Union of Chinese Associations in Sweden were honorary presidents of the Chinese Medical Association.
The newly elected President Dr. Duan Maoli said the main objective of the association is to promote academic exchange between China and Sweden, enhance Chinese medicine, expand academic influence of the Chinese researchers in Sweden, promote cooperation in projects between China and Sweden and provide information in medical field.
Chinese Ambassador to Sweden Chen Mingming and all the councilors also attended in the meeting.
"I think the formation of the association is in a good timing. Sweden is in the leading position in medical science in many ways in the world, the famous Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine is nominated here in Karolinska institutet. Many Chinese doctors have studied or worked here and achieved a lot in their career. It is good to unite and voice your voice,"said the Ambassador.
"On the other hand, as we know that there is a strong demand from Chinese universities and even business sector to learn from Swedish expertise or improve Chinese medicine. Chinese government has invested billions of money in improving medical service for the people in China, now money is not a problem(warm applause), the main thing is the expertise. I think the Chinese Medical Association in Sweden can be a bridge for Chinese and Swedish medical cooperation and exchange," said the Ambassador.
Dr. Duan Maoli said the association will begin with a series of medical lectures to popularize basic knowledge in medical sciences.
"We will try our best to achieve our goals by doing not just by talking," said Dr. Duan.
According to incomplete statistics, there are about 1000 Chinese doctors, researchers, and scholars in Sweden, about 80% of them are at PHD level.
