The Swedish Academy will announce the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature on Oct. 8, the Academy said on Friday.

It is the last Nobel Prize for the academy to set the date for this year's announcement.

As a tradition, the medicine Nobel Prize will be the first to be unveiled on Oct. 5 by the Karolinska Institute, according to the schedule of the Nobel Foundation.

The Royal Academy of Sciences was set to follow with the physics prize on Oct. 6 and the chemistry prize on Oct. 7. The peace prize is to be announced on Oct. 9 in Oslo, Norway. The economics award will be made public on Oct. 12.

Each prize, worth 10 million kronor (about 1.4 million U.S. dollars), is endowed by Swedish industrialist and dynamite inventor Alfred Nobel.

The awarding ceremonies are to be held on Dec. 10 in Stockholm and Oslo at the anniversary of the death of Nobel in 1896.
