Bill Gates Devotes Himself to Philanthropy after Retirement; First Stop—China
Beginning this summer, Gates will become a full-time philanthropist, and he says that his first stop for philanthropic activities this year will be China. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will carry out several key health-related plans, including HIV/AIDS prevention, Hepatitis B vaccination, and smoking cessation, and will try to think of ways to bring Chinese agricultural knowledge to Africa to improve agriculture there.
Gates said, "China is a very interesting country. On one hand it has received aid from other countries, but at the same time it donates to countries poorer than itself. The fact that it is able to do this shows that its economy has already improved greatly, and it is able to help poorer countries."
There are many smokers in China. The Gates Foundation plans to carry out a new plan, helping Chinese people to quit smoking. Gates also said he plans to attend the Olympics.
