Chinese poet commemorated before Dragon Boat Festival

People recite a poem by Qu Yuan, a great Chinese poet, in Zigui County, central China's Hunan Province, May 31, 2008. People in Zigui County will hold a series of events to commemorate Qu Yuan before the day of the Dragon Boat Festival which falls on June 8 this year. Qu Yuan lived in the state of Chu during the Warring States period (475 B.C. to 221 B.C.). He drowned himself in the Miluo River in today's Hunan Province on fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, hoping to alert the king to revitalize the kingdom. (Xinhua Photo)
