Li Jianguo, vice chairman and secretary general of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), met in Kuala Lumpur Monday with Malaysian leaders on bilateral relations and cooperation.

Li, who is on a good-will tour here, spoke highly of China-Malaysia ties when he met with Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, Senate President Abdul Hamid bin Pawanteh, and Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively.

The relations between China and Malaysia have achieved considerable progress since the two countries established diplomatic ties 35 years ago, Li said.

Mutual political trust between the two sides were increasingly deepening, remarkable achievements had been scored in bilateral economic and trade cooperation, and exchanges in various areas were expanding, he said.

The two countries also coordinated and cooperated closely on international and regional issues, he said.

Li said that China appreciated the Malaysian government's adherence to the One-China policy, noting that China was willing to further deepen its strategic cooperation with Malaysia and work together with Malaysia to face the challenge of the global financial crisis.

He said that the NPC was willing to strengthen its exchanges and cooperation with the Malaysian parliament at various levels to make greater contribution to stronger ties between China and Malaysia.

Malaysian leaders expressed satisfaction over the good developments of the relations between the two countries.

Najib said that China is Malaysia's friendly neighbor and important cooperation partner and the Malaysian government attaches great importance to the development of Malaysia-China strategic cooperation.

He hoped that the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic ties between the two countries would be taken as an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various realms and to enhance bilateral ties.

Najib also said that China's international status is increasingly rising, believing China would play a more active and more important role in coping with the global financial crisis.

Li led a delegation of senior Chinese legislators to arrive here on Friday for a good-will visit to Malaysia at the invitation of the Senate of Malaysia.
