South Korean Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-na has parted ways with her Canadian coach Brian Orser, Orser's agency IMG announced on Tuesday.
IMG said Kim's mother Park Mi-hee informed Orser on August 2 that "he would no longer be retained" to coach the 19-year-old skater, and "no reason was given for the sudden and unexpected decision."
Orser, a two-time Olympic silver medallist for Canada, has become Kim's coach since 2006 and helped the figure skating star to win the gold medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
Kim's management company AT Sports said in a press release that Orser gave final notice on Monday to resign as coach. The statement said relations between the two have been "uncomfortable" since May.
