Hong Kong, Macau and Chinese Taipei have sent their best college student players to compete at the 24th Universiade, which have attracted athletes from 156 countries and regions from all over the world.
Lee Tien-rein, head of the Chinese Taipei delegation, said that 189 Chinese Taipei players will compete in 16 events at the Universiade, with potential medalists in tennis, taekwondo, golf, shooting and women's volleyball.
"We have sent players as many as possible to Bangkok to let them gain more experience in international games," Lee said.
However, Lee said the delegation hasn't set any goal for the players.
"We will reward them if they win but won't give them any pressure," he said.
Chow Kun-wah, head of the Hong Kong delegation, composed of 32 athletes to compete in seven events, said the best student players of Hong Kong have been sent to the Universiade.
Chan Ping-cheung, an official with the Hong Kong delegation, said the players were expected to get medals in fencing, swimming and badminton.
"Their performance at the Universiade will probably have connection with whether they can be chosen for the 2008 Beijing Olympics," Chan said.
Macau sent a 35-member delegation, including players, coaches and officials, to the Universiade. Macau players will take part in seven events.
