German head coach Silvia Neid said that scoring 11 goals are not her players' mistakes and the question should be replied by Argentina.
Defending champions Germany slaughtered Argentina 11-0 in the opening game of the FIFA Women's World Cup here Monday night, turning the Group A match into a one-sided show and set the biggest winning margin in the Cup's history.
Asked by a reporter if she is satisfied with the result and if the result could hurt the women's soccer movement, Neid said: "I am very satisfied with the result. My players tried their best to attack all out and seized many scoring chances.
"I have to admit that Argentina didn't perform to their best. The team beat Brazil last month in the qualifying round and showed not that strong tonight. I don't think we hurt anything. You should ask the Argentine team the same question," said the coach.
Neid also revealed that she was very happy to see Sandra Smisek recover her shape. Smisek finished a hat-trick in the match, together with Birgit Prinz.
Besides the pair of hat-trick from German players, Argentina's goalkeeper Vanina Correa also contributed her part to seal the double figure result.
She sent Germany two gifts with two own goals, the opening goal and the last goal, swerving two corners into the upper net.
The day's result set the biggest win ever in the Women's World Cup history. The previous biggest win record was set in 1991 by Sweden which beat Japan 8-0.
At the press conference after the game, Neid said the next game against England would be a differend affair. "I don't think we are able to produce this big gap. Winning the match will be our task."
The second match of Group A, also the second match of the tournament, will be played on Tuesday here between Japan and England. The top two teams of the four groups qualify for the knock-out round.
