Mexico celebrates bronze medal in diving

Mexican President Felipe Calderon and high sports authorities celebrated on Tuesday the bronze medal that Mexican diver Paola Espinosa and Tatiana Ortiz won at synchronized diving in Beijing.

Calderon and director of the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (Conade) Carlos Hermosillo congratulated both competitors, whose medal is the first one that Mexico wins in the Olympic Games of Beijing.

Calderon phoned from Mexico City to Beijing to talk with the divers.

Calderon said that both divers are good example of the good results obtained at work team, according to a communique of the Mexican Presidency.

Calderon said that Mexico is proud of the courage showed by the Mexican competitors in Beijing.

Espinosa and Ortiz won bronze at 10m platform synchronized diving in the National Aquatic Center of Beijing.

The bronze medal "shows that Mexican divers are made for better things," Hermosillo said.

President of the Mexican Olympic Committee (COM) Felipe Munoz said that the bronze in synchronized diving "break the nervousness that the delegation was living due to the wait of a medal".

Chief of Mexican delegation in Beijing Carlos Padilla said that both diver are very young, although with a great experience at international competitions.

Espinosa in her side, thanked her bronze medal to the teaching of her Chinese coach Ma Jin.

Espinosa said that she has the intention of continue in synchronized diving competition with Ortiz.

Espinosa also said that she enjoyed the competition, although at some moment she felt nervous.

Espinosa and Ortiz won their bronze medal during the fourth day of competitions of the 29th Olympic Games of Beijing.

Chinese Wang Xin and Chen Ruolin won the gold medal, while Australians Briony Cole and Melissa Wu won the silver.
