Beijing Lost and Found service platform launched
16:53, July 07, 2008

On July 6, the electronic "Lost and Found services platform with Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau" has officially opened.

Physical registration and claims have been replaced by a system to report and inquire about lost items through the Internet or by telephone.

Upon receipt of information about the lost or stolen property, the police shall publish the information within 24 hours on the site www.bjgaj.gov.cn/swzl.

People looking for lost property can also log on directly to the site. In addition, the newly opened hotline--62041111 provides bilingual services in English and Chinese.

The person in charge of the Public Order Department with the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau said that in case of emergency, when Olympic officials, athletes, and journalists are unable to spare time from their competition work, the police on lost and found duty will provide on-site service.

For the property which remains unclaimed after six months after information is released, Lost and Found will sell the property, according to the relevant provisions of "Property Law"; and hand over the money collected to the state treasury.
