Beijing Daily reported that at the Beijing Olympic Games opening ceremony, three foreigners helped a Chinese girl who had fainted. Pictures of this scene were soon posted online, quickly became a hot topic; and netizens believe this is the perfect interpretation of the Olympic spirit. The identities of the three good Samaritans have been revealed: Polish physician Hubert Krzysztofiak, his colleague and 23-year-old Beata Mikolajczyk.
Krzysztofiak said: "When the torch was heading in my direction, I heard someone calling for help." It was Beata Mikolajczyk, a Polish girl, who saw a Chinese girl faint and called for help.
As chief medical officer of the Polish delegation, Krzysztofiak and his colleague immediately ran to her rescue. "When I spoke to her, she had already fainted."
In this way, the three foreigners carried the girl out of venue. At this time, the Olympic cauldron was lit.
It was not until Krzysztofiak saw his own photo on China Daily that he recalled this event; and the other two said that they have forgotten about the whole thing. Krzysztofiak said, "This is not a heroic deed. It just happened to be photographed. But I am not the only person in the photo. There were three people; we all helped that girl."
