Bangladeshi people wish Beijing Olympics a success
14:35, July 25, 2008

With the approach of Beijing Olympic games, some Bangladeshi people expressed their wishes for a successful Beijing Olympics.

Shamsul Alam, former chairman of Bangladesh Insurance Association, said in an interview with Xinhua Friday that hosting Olympics is not only an honor for China, but an honor for the whole Asia.

"I hope China, India, South Korea and Japan as well as other Asian countries will get more metals from this Olympics," he said.

"As the Olympics will be held in China, I think all the Asian countries will be encouraged and boosted up," he added.

Alam said Bangladesh is poor in sports. He hoped the Bangladeshi government will improve its sports level after getting some experience from the Beijing Olympics.

"We need training support, and the training program should start at the primary level," he said.

Alam said he is very proud of China to host such a tremendous sports event, he hopes one day the sub-continent will have the opportunity to host the Olympics.

He hoped China will top the list of medals and he thinks the desire will encourage the Chinese athletes to perform well and compete with world sports powers.

M.A. Satter, former commerce minister of Bangladesh, said it is a great thing for China to host Olympics.

"Everyday I watched Olympic reports from TV, I am very impressed by the well preparation of the Chinese government for the upcoming Olympics," he said.

"I think Beijing Olympics will be a success," he added.

Satter said he wanted to visit China after the Olympics to see how a great country has been developed in such a big way.

Zaman Khan, a businessman, said he is very interested in the Beijing Olympics.

"It is the first time for China to host Olympics, with the well preparation and the sincereness of the Chinese government and people, the Olympics will be a success," he said.

Khan hoped Bangladesh will get some experience from the Beijing Olympics and develop its sports in a best and faster way.

According to Bangladesh Olympic Association, a 39-member Olympic delegation will go to Beijing with six athletes to contest in the Olympics.
