Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met here Sunday with Mongolian Prime Minister Sanj Bayar, who is here to attend the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games.

He congratulated the Mongolian athletic team on making a historic breakthrough at the Games.

Mongolia's Tuvshinbayar Naidan beat Askhat Zhitkeyev, of Kazakhstan, in the men's 100kg class judo on Aug. 14, winning Mongolia's first Olympic gold medal in 44 years.

Bayar highly praised the organization of the Games, noting it showed China's progress in social and economic development in recent years.

Speaking positively of the development of China-Mongolia relations, Wen said the two countries are good neighbors, and the Chinese government takes the ties with Mongolia as an important one in its relations with neighboring countries.

China is willing to take the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties with Mongolia as an opportunity to promote the bilateral relations, Wen said.

Bayar said Mongolia hopes to celebrate the anniversary jointly with China and further enhance the good-neighborly friendship of mutual trust between the two countries.

He also invited 60 Chinese children from earthquake-hit areas to recuperate in Mongolia next year.
