China's top political advisor meets Thai PM

China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin here Friday met with Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej, who was here to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games slated for Friday evening.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said China and Thailand are friendly neighbors and trust-worthy cooperative partners, and the family-like friendship has been deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples.

The Chinese side attached much importance to China-Thai relations and appreciated Thai's long term adherence to the one-China policy. China is willing to join hands with Thailand to further strategic cooperation and achieve mutual benefit and common development, he said.

Speaking highly of the bilateral ties, Samak said the Thai government will continue strengthening friendly cooperation with China and boost the bilateral relations to a new stage.

More than 80 heads of state and government and royals will attend the opening ceremony Friday evening in the National Stadium, better known as the Bird's Nest.
